I just finished shaving. Generally, I start from the sideburns and work inwards, which was the case today. Once I got partially completed, I saw that I had a goatee of shaving cream remaining. A moment of spontaneity followed, and I am currently sporting a goatee (or something that amounts to a reasonable facsimile of one, at least) My opinion of this new and never before attempted facial hair arrangement is as of yet undecided. I plan to wait and see how hard my friends Adam and Charlie laugh at me when I see them this afternoon.
Who knows? Maybe I'll keep it. Maybe it'll have a longer lifetime than my ponitail ("i" intentional, it was a wussy ponytail, a la Wesley in Princess Bride) which currently has the record for longest lasting hair experiment for me, even though it wasn't very long.

Words of wisdom (fourteen words, to be exact) from an insomniac:
If anyone tells you the truth is always the best policy, they are lying.

Creepiness abounds.
Have you ever seen Adult Swim? Recently, they added interstitials that amount to simple white text on black backgrounds. I'm watching Futurama and this screen pops up.
"How much does it cost to make an episode of Futurama?"
Since I'm alone in my room, I answer out loud. (I'm willing to admit that my inner monolog ceases being so inner at certain times.) I say $400,000, and the screen changes.
"Nope. Higher."
I can't resist a chuckle. My banter with my television set continues. I say $600,000.
"Try 1.2 million."
I'm surprised at this figure. I reflexively blurt out 'Holy shit!' And here's the screen that pops up next.
"Holy @$%& is right."
What did I tell you? Creeeeeepy...

In this trying time, with parental relational difficulties, diminunitive employment prospects, a month that looks like it will last a year, and even more problems in the world with which I am not directly involved. In light of this, I am quite surprised and in fact elated to find some good news once in a while.
No comment of mine is necessary, I feel.

It took an article in the New York Times titled "Teenagers Facing Hard Competition for Summer Jobs" (you may need a NYT account to view it) for my dad to get the friggin' picture. Apparently all the evidence I had to give him from my first-hand experience was not convincing enough, or perhaps he considers the source too dubious to be truly trustworthy.
He doesn't take me seriously at all. A few days ago, I was relating to him some of the salient points of my tirade against the RIAA, and his response was perhaps the most dismissive acquiescent thing I've encountered in my existence. It was the exact same nod he gives my five-year old brother when he's babbling incoherently. I'm really getting tired of trying to earn his respect.
Maybe I could get Kate Zernike over at the Times to write an article about parents not being dissapointed in their children because they turned out to be intellectuals, not athletes.
Ah, my complex is bubbling quite nicely today!

Okay, here's a beef I've got. Why the heck are critics so positive about the Pixar movies? At Rotten Tomatoes, the movie Find Nemo has 99% positive review rating. I liked the movie, but nothing gets that good a rating! Similarly, Monsters, Inc. has a 94%, A Bug's Life has a 91%, and Toy Story 1 and 2 both have one hundred percent positive reviews!
I like these movies, for the most part. But it boggles my mind how they could have practically no detractors at all! Anyone want to explain this to me? I certainly don't think they're all that good.

I have just returned from a weekend of housepainting.
Minus: I have sore calves from standing on a ladder, and my plan to get tan while I worked didn't work out quite the way I had hoped. I have sunburned shoulders and got no sun on my front half, so I only have a tan back, which looks kind of silly.
Plus: I made 300 bucks.
Minus: That's still only 60% of the goal I need to meet to satisfy my dad's demands.
Nothing springs to mind that is particulary important to share at the moment. Hope everyone is well.
