The selected ravings of a most peculiar young man.

Poetic justice, anyone?

Before my philosophy of art class started on tuesday, I was talking with a friend of mine about how sad it is that we can write fluff papers and get by in all of our classes. We mourned for the teachers who could see through our slacking and make actually constructive comments. And then we got our first paper back.

I got 11/20 on it, and it was the fourth highest grade in the class. The whole first paragraph was circled and the words "gaseous effusion" were written above it in red. Now, I can't argue with that assessment. But no one has ever called me on it before! I'm reviewing the paper I'm turning in tomorrow (something I never do) and I can see how much BS my writing style has picked up.

"Simply put, there is no sense of there being any loose ends at the end of the play" should be "There are no loose ends at the end of the play."

"The word ‘imitation’ as Aristotle uses it should be understood to be in reference to the appearance of the action..." should be "The word ‘imitation’ as Aristotle uses it should be understood as the appearance of the action..."

And so on.

When I step back and look at it, its kind of sickening, really. But it has worked so much in the past. It is both a blessing and a curse that I have a teacher now who actually expects performance out of me. Alas!
